We continue our
stories and photographs of cousins and ancestors, inspired by the July 2013
Wilson reunion at Shirley Sorrell's home in Sutherland, North Carolina. Our Forrester-Wilson-Greer-Osborne-Donnelly-Adams
and other associated families lived (and many still do) in the lush valleys and
highlands of beautiful Western North Carolina. Below, left to right Shirley, Len Wilson and his mother, Jeane Lewis Wilson, resting in the swing at the Donnelly-Sorrell house in Sutherland along the North Fork of the New River.
Jean is the widow of Ernest G. Wilson (1916-1989). Ernest was one of three sons of Arlie Gaither Wilson (1885-1956) and Bessie A. Wilson (1887-1976). Bessie was one of the daughters of John (1855-1928) and Rebecca Wilson (1862-1954) who lived their lives on the old Isaac and Caroline Greer Wilson farm in Sutherland, Ashe County, North Carolina. The photographs below are courtesy of Shirley Sorrell's family collection.
Below, left to right, the sons of Arlie and Bessie Wilson - Boyd (1911-1972), Ernest and Clyde Wilson (1913-2007) in their Sunday best with animals, ca 1928.
The picture below was produced in the book on the Wilson-Greer family, Neighbor to Neighbor, and was taken in 2006. Len Wilson is with his Uncle Clyde Wilson, both holding the Isaac Wilson Civil War sword. Len inherited this treasured family artifact from his father Ernest.
In the 1950s, the family of Arlie and Bessie gathered in Wilson Cove. Left to right Ernest, Clyde, Boyd, Bessie and Arlie. Ernest stay in the area as a farmer. Boyd lived in Baltimore, Maryland and Clyde part of his life in High Point, North Carolina.
